This morning harvest of 13lbs. of green beans, 2lbs of pole beans, 1 lb of sugar snap peas and one very full fridge. Capped off by a few heads of broccoli and 6 pounds squash to make sure the fridge door will be tricky for a few days. Needless to say there will be green beans in the Farm Stand Friday. "For the curious we plant our beans in 3' by 10' beds one bed produces 15-20 lbs."
A snap shot of the garden vegetables as of 6:45pm on July 18, 2011:
We are starting with this beautiful cantaloupe- well, we should say musk melon. This is a smaller variety, my niece said she wanted melon, so she better watch out! There are more than 10 of these little babies growing on 4 vines that are getting bigger by the day. This one doubled in size from yesterday! Amazing what sun and water will do!
The corn stalks are coming along nicely. Jason counted yesterday, and we should get at least 20 ears of corn- sounds like just enough for the family! We only planted a few rows. It is really wonderful to be able to walk between the plants and see how the corn grows!
Do we need to say more about the totally awesome tomatoes or the bountiful broccoli? Don't they look gorgeous?! (Anthony, those exclamation marks are for you!)
Finally we end with the peppers. This one, though the picture is deceiving is rather large already, which is good, that way it will have lots of time in the sun to turn red- Jason and I really love red peppers!
Great weekend at the farm stand- green beans were piling up after harvest, so a few lucky people are having the best green beans around!
See you soon at the farm stand!
This mornings squash harvest filled the basket. The high heat is putting a hurting on the plants but they are producing squash this size in days!
This is one of our favorite recipes for courgettes.

- 4 tbsp pine nuts , toasted

- a handful Parmesan (or vegetarian alternative) shavings to serve

Wow! The corn is coming along! All of the garden is growing nicely, including the weeds. We had to do some serious weed wacking and hand weeding to clean out the garden beds and the rows between.
The wonderful thing is, that you can look back after you have completed a row, and see what your hard work has created! A tidy garden that looks spectacular!
Tomatoes are growing strong too- little green tomatoes are popping out on almost all of the plants. In no time, we will be selling tomatoes at the farm stand.
This weekend, we added sugar snap peas, zucchini and yellow squash, and some of our dried lavender.
Enjoy the weekend!
This picture is not an exaggeration! The leaves of our squash plants are enormous! The plants are huge and healthy, and I dare not jinx us, but no squash bugs! We were definitely due a serious squash harvest seeing that we were not able to grow a single squash last year!
Here are some other pictures of our beauties!
Snow Peas are almost ready! Look for some for sale in our Farm Stand this weekend!
Stay tuned to the blog and farm stand site as we move into the season and more vegetables become available!
New baby squash! Don't they look great! No squash bugs, no mildew- it is a great year for squash! Look for them in the farm stand in the coming weeks! A great weekend for gardening- we were out there early this morning weeding the beds in the green house and planning the Sunday planting- we have planned out our crop rotations for quick growing braising greens, herbs and mixed baby greens
